I have made only a few trips to Steptoe Butte in Eastern Washington State. I think my comment always is that you could take the same shout from an airplane. Steptoe bothers me because there is nothing near to add perspective and help tell the story of the place. I did make a trip last week to the famous Steptoe butte though. The difference this time is I took a telephoto lens with me. That allowed me to use foreground elements that were a mile away. This was taken just a few minutes after sunrise. You can see that the warm light is painting the hill tops. After spending a morning there with the right gear I have to admit, it was a lot of fun and I can see why so many flock to this location.
