Bruneau Sand Dune sunset
Bruneau Sand Dunes Idaho
I try to take a few trips a year to Bruneau. I know, it's sand, and lots of it. But to photograph the dunes is not just a matter of clicking the shutter. You have to be there when the light is just right, and when the wind has created just the right ripples in the sand, enough to cast a shadow. And then there is the design aspect of it. Find just the perfect angle to balance the shot with shapes, textures, and contrast. Don't let me forget to mention, try not to step in the field of view either unless that is your intent.
For this image I went to Bruneau after work one day after there had been some winds. I also wanted to try and get some clouds into the scene. After a short drive and a lot of walking this what I came up with. It was taken about 30 minutes before sundown.
