Burrowing Owl on Fence Post
The Burrowing Owls reside just south of Boise and show themselves once a year. They are spookd very easily, but I have found that if I stay in my truck they seem not mind. The best time to photograph them is either early in the morning or late at night. This shot was taken early in the morning, about 15 minutes after sunrise. This owl has some blood on his beak from his breakfast. He is hiding one leg up in his feathers.
The adult owls generally start showing up middle to late may. They are only about a foot in height. The babies come a month later near the end of June.
